After touring several industrial plants in college, Orlo switched majors from chemical engineering to Botany and began his environmental journey. He earned his MBA after serving in the Marine Corps, and then began researching cold climate passive solar greenhouses. He applied what he learned to building his own energy-planned home. Orlo founded Stitt Energy Systems (now The Stitt Group) to help others save energy and make the world a better place to live. He developed South Sun Estates on the Lake, the first energy-planned passive solar subdivision in Northwest Arkansas, and he is a Certified Green Professional and former HERS Rater. Orlo and his wife live in South Sun Estates in a net-zero energy home that produces enough solar power to run his Chevrolet Volt.
